Jessica Coen departs Gawker for 'Vanity Fair'

Yep, it's true. It's been great working with Jessica both as a lowly Gridskipperite and at Gawker proper, and I wish her nothing but the best. Two years in the bowels of blog is like forty years in the "real world," so I feel like we should be giving her a gold watch or something. Anyway, I'm sure she'll do great things at this scrappy "Condé Nast" startup we keep hearing so much about.

Three Things

Thing 1: Just to reiterate, how I came to be doing what I'm doing may be found here, followed by this over here.

Thing 2: My old personal blog, Diztopia, can still be found here, though many of the links have long since rotted, images look funky, and sometimes the whole design seems to disappear. Highly embarrassing and sophomoric in retrospect. How little things have changed, really.

Thing 3: Now that I'm on IM or email pretty much constantly all day long, one thing I cannot stand is the word "um." It is a universal throat-clearing signifier of upcoming self-righteous dickery. Just get right to the complaint, please. Because, um, I don't need this bit of conversational stage business any more than I need smileys.

That is all things for the moment. Though I'm sure other things are about to get moderately interesting. Any minute now.

Blogging for Love Alone

After much procrastinating, here's a highly dubious gesture at a personal blog revamp, or "web presence." Can you feel my presence, so close now? I plan on trying to attempt to work towards making a sincere effort to endeavor to post here with some regularity, but blogging professionally really does kill the after-hours blogging instinct almost stone dead. This won't be regular blog wackiness like in olden times, and I'm still trying to sort out the URL business. I'm used to whining at a tech person to solve all my problems, and now I have to re-learn very simple blogskills all over again.

Anyway, on the off chance that this might be of interest to more than the likely audience of no one, I do plan to post some occasional thoughts on my work for Gawker. No hot dish or scoop, just the self-referential meanderings we generally try to avoid on the site itself. Otherwise, expect very typical posts on obsessive minutiae or topics not Gawker-worthy. Try to contain your excitement.
