So yes indeed, there was this, which was formally declared thusly, and followed up thatly. Much bloviation elsewhere, naturally enough, but anyone who cares will have already read it. Thanks to the surprising number of friends and acquaintances who sent in best wishes. Moving forward, all I can say for now is that negotiations continue with the gnomic lords of Gawker Media. Other side gigs are presenting themselves with charming frequency as well. And I have a little more free time at the moment, so anyone I blew off lately for coffee or other beverages, by all means drop me a line.

Comfy? Good. Because this is a long one. It's time to close an archival loop on something I wrote about in 2005, back when I was just a poor boy with a blog and a dream. And a "real" job of sorts, in the Bronx. Commuting to this job required me to walk down Fordham Road along a bustling commercial avenue that had once been an ornate series of shopping arcades. Dating from the 1920s, the buildings and facades have mostly been covered over with modern signage.
